Nesta arrived when she was about to be shipped to a horrible fate. She was emaciated with a large wormy belly. Nestas body condition improved immensely, however, she was diagnosed with severe navicular. When we could no longer keep her comfortable, we said our goodbye. RIP Nesta
Spirit was picked up at an auction, knowing he would need euthanasia. This poor baby was in severe pain, with a leg that needed correction when he was newborn and was ignored. No surgery could give Him a quality of life, so we laid him to rest, with all the love we could give him. RIP Spirit
Rudolph was a beautiful nearly 30 year old gelding. He arrived to us by auction, with a significant heart murmur, old fractured ribs, minor arthritis and extremely sharp teeth. His knees started giving him a lot of problems, so we went forward with injections, which unfortunately didn’t help. In August 2023, Rudy was laid to rest. RIP our beautiful old man.
Edison was 25-30 years old. When he came to us, he had so many issues to address. He was diagnosed with Cushings and uveitis. Eventually he went blind but he adapted very well. Sadly, when he developed neurological issues, we had to lay him to rest. Edison is the one who started us with seniors, and all seniors rescued, are in memory of Edison and how he impacted so many lives.
Buddy came to hhers severely emaciated. With some vetting and a good dental, he started putting on weight and looking much better. Buddy was a kind old soul, around 30 years old. His passing was sudden, but he told us it was his time. Buddy was spoiled and loved by his foster mom for the last couple months of his life. Rest In Peace sweet boy
Montana arrived at HHERS, only coming 2 and in so much pain. It was determined by our vets, that she had a major accident 6+ months prior, resulting in multiple leg injuries, and a broken pelvis that had healed horribly. Dakota was peacefully laid to rest after spending so much of her life in pain
Clive was a beautiful 16 year old standardbred gelding. He arrived because he was at risk of becoming dog food. He was very emaciated, and had a significant old Injury. His foster mom faught hard to help him gain weight and be comfortable, but ultimately, the damage was done.
RIP Beautiful boy
Bailey was only with us for a couple hours before we had to make the call to euthanize. We brought her straight to our vet, as she couldn’t put her leg straight from an old injury. We did X-rays and there was no humane way to fix either I’d her bad legs. Her quality of life was extremely low, and she could barely get around. Bailey was nothing but kind and sweet for the time we knew her, despite all the pain she was experiencing. RIP Bailey.
After having Coyote (25) for a few months, we noticed her getting very sore again. X-rays showed significant changes in her navicular, and we made the decision with our vet and farrier to say goodbye. Pain management was no longer helping her. RIP beautiful girl ❤️
Magnus was around 25 years old and was sent to auction for meat only. He was severely emaciated, with a severe old stifle injury. Magnus couldn’t safely handle another winter, so we gave him one last amazing summer. RIP Magnus
Rigby arrived very skinny and with many health concerns. At 30 years old, he was diagnosed with cushings, asthma and arthritis. Rigby had an amazing Spring, Summer and Fall before we had to lay him to rest. His health was a rollercoaster but he was spunky and protective over his best friend Apple. Rest Easy Rigby
Freddy came to us at 33 years old, severely emaciated. Despite his age, his blood work was good and we gave him a much needed dental. Freddy was only with us 4 short weeks before we had to sadly lay him to rest. He made a little family in the herd and enjoyed the time he did have. RIP Freddy
Mr. Snuggles was saved by another rescue at auction, then transferred to our care. Snuggles spent all Spring and Summer roaming the yard with his kids. Fall 2023 we laid our sweet boy to rest after it was clear he could not put weight on, after extensive vetting. It wouldn’t have been humane to make him do an Alberta winter. RIP Mr Snuggles, you will be missed by your girls so much.
Jingle arrived from auction after his family sent him to he sold for meat only. He had severe arthritis, so we managed his pain with previcox and injections. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we could no longer keep him comfortable. He was a beloved family horse, who adored the kids. He touched hearts from all over, and we are so grateful we had time with him, even though it was far too short. RIP Jingle Bell
Honey was only around 10 years old when she came to us, not able to use 1 of her legs. XRays determined she had very severe ringbone and had been living in extreme pain for a while. Her feet were an absolute mess, and we made the decision with our team of vets to help her Peacefully pass. Honey was such a sweet mare, despite being in pain and being failed in her life.
Paedyn arrived with Adena. Both of them spent their lives having babies and serving people. Pae had just lost a baby before arriving. Her body was so out of whack, and eventually the severe arthritis in her neck started causing neurological problems. We did not expect to loose Pae so soon, but we couldn’t have her suffer through winter. Rest In Peace big girl .
